My big 'Aka/sister'

These couple of weeks I’ve been spending as much time as possible with Ayanna, explaining and describing what’s about to transpire. We’ve been talking about her big sister role as she helps me with some chores around the house in preparation for her little brother’s arrival. She’s been helping with the folding and arranging of his clothes; we’ve been busy reading ‘I’m a Big Sister’ by Joanna Cole; looking at her baby pictures; sharing stories about my sibling experiences; and how ammachi (grandma) will be taking care of her while I am away. She’s chosen the little one a gift to take to the hospital during her visits.
