Ayanna loves to click away...

I admit I find myself sometimes losing track as to how old Ayanna is (in terms of months). She's growing fast, adding several inches in height and kilos in weight along the way. Ayanna is almost ¾ ways through her second year.

She's able to brush her teeth, put on her shoes and clothes. Some days, she needs a little help or encouragement. Ayanna is loving school – is able to recognise 1-6, all her lower case and upper case letters, knows all her primary and secondary colours and is now counting numbers beyond 10. We're gradually exposing her to 3-letter words, beginning with the Peter and Jane series as our foundation.

Ayanna is able to draw a straight line, squiggles, swirls and circles, filling them up with eyes, noses and mouths before topping them off with some straggly hair. When Ayanna first learnt to make a mark on paper, she used her whole fist to hang on to the crayon. Now, she's progressed – her fingers have developed better dexterity, as she grasps her pencils and crayons between her thumb and fingers.

She is able to inform her teachers and us when she needs to go to the toilet. If the seat is low enough she is able to use it without help. Ayanna can also wash and dry her hands at the sink.

It's an exciting month ahead...
