Ayanna’s never fully utilized her sippy cup. It’s been mainly for nibbling, tossing and the occasional rolling. So, we thought we’d simply try to give her a straw cup/ bottle. She took to it instantly. All I had to do was to simply make some ‘sipping/ sucking’ sounds and she followed, and was instantly rewarded with a drink of water.
I believe the straw cup is going to be a constant companion to keep Ayanna hydrated, especially when out in the hot weather.
However, we’ll have to be sure to limit her water intake to an ounce or two at a time, ideally after meals. I don’t want her to feel so full that she refuses to nurse.
In fact, experts say babies don’t really need water or any liquid other than breast milk or formula until after their first birthday.
