Turning 2 soon
As I recall our Italian travel adventure here, I'm also excitedly preparing to celebrate Ayanna's 2nd birthday. She turns 2 on the 16th. This 23-month old has been exploding with energy – humming and singing her favourite nursery rhymes and the ABCs plus surprising us with three- six word sentences. The other day she said “I want to go to school”. She's also showing more interest in playing with other children.
A quick recap – Part 2
Meals- not many restaurants carried baby chairs so the booster seat came in handy. It gave Ayanna the feeling that she was a 'big girl' sitting on her own separate chair and yet it ensured that she was safely strapped to her seat. Ayanna had loads of pasta, was introduced to risotto but craved for her riso bianco (white rice). Thankfully Chinese restaurants were to be found in every town. Ayanna missed eating her green veggies which she so loves. The vegetable dishes served in Chinese restaurants were made of bamboo, carrots, mushrooms and bean sprouts. The only form of green vegetables we got were in salads. We were fortunate that Ayanna had no problems with the pasteurized milk available in Italy, which we were able to find in supermarkets and grocery stores. Ayanna especially loved the gelato – ciocolata (chocolate) was her favorite. Also all restaurant s and cafes are non-smoking premises which works great for travellers with kids.
Busy at play
Activities – we made sure everyday that we spent some time doing things Ayanna enjoyed. We took her to playgrounds, parks and gardens where she could roam free. Markets were a great place for her to learn about fruits and vegetables; colours and shapes. We made a stop at Viareggio, located on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Ayanna loved being by the beach, feeling the waters, and playing in the sand. The Roman zoo was another place that Ayanna thoroughly enjoyed.
Happy to be at the beach
