Turning 19 months

Cool and independant!

Ayanna turned 19th months yesterday. How time flies. In five months time, she will hit the big two.

At this stage, she seems to be displaying an early understanding of what things don’t conform to grownup ideas. She reacts with a hearty laugh when she calls a cow a giraffe for instance and watches to see our reaction. She notices when something isn’t quite right – like the other day when she noticed a stain on mummy’s blouse.

Ayanna’s strumming together pairs of words, sometimes three, like “carry me”, “not here”, “so much” and “put it down”. She seems to be absorbing a lot – getting a handle on most of the words we use around her. She’s also mastered her favourite song ‘Twinkle, Twinkle.’

Ayanna continues to strive for independence. Mummy has to remember to compromise instead of commanding, which comes so naturally, to minimise power struggles with the little one. To celebrate her assertive and independent nature, we’ve moved her into her own room. She’s taken to it quite well (more on that later).
