Crafty Crafted opens its studio

If you're in the vicinity of Subang 2, Shah Alam, Selangor, you'll want to consider sending your children to the Crafty Crafted Studio.

Teacher/Owner Merryn Tan (who was at the ParenThots Family Day last year and this year) has crafts classes for children, parents and teachers as well.

She teaches them to create crafts using recycled material.

The classes for children are on Saturdays, while the ones for parents/teachers are on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. She also conducts workshops on demand (for a minumum of four people).

“The crafts classes teach children to use recycled materials to make crafts. We hope to teach them about saving the environment as they learn to create crafts.

“The main message is to save the environment.

“As we do crafts, we might explain about paper, where it comes from and what happens if we use too much paper,” explains Tan.

Unlike some crafts classes, at Crafty Crafted Studio the children are not made to copy a particular piece of craft. Instead, they are shown an example and given as much time and allowed to use their own creativity to recreate it or even create something completely different, if they want.

At Tan's class, children are not rushed and they are encouraged to explore their creativity.
