LOOKING at the title, I expected this movie to be something like my favourite TV sitcom Nanny starring Fran Drescher.
Remember that lovable bombshell from the city of Queens in New York with the characteristic and infectious nasal voice that would drive anyone crazy?
However, the nanny in this movie is Annie Braddock (Johansson), who is nowhere near the unmistakeable Fran Fine.
Like Miss Fine, Braddock also ends up working for a very rich family. The movie, which is based on a best-selling novel of the same name, takes on its own storyline from then on.
College graduate Braddock not only starts her new job working for a “little monster” by the name of Grayer (Art), but she soon becomes deeply entangled in the kid's weird parents' lives and their obsessions with their personal wants.
Like Mary Poppins, another of the silver screen's amazing nannies, Braddock delivers an unexpected touching moment in the fitting finale.
Subtitles available in English, Chinese and Malay. Other features are “the making of” segment and stories of some notable past nannies. - Review by ANTHONY THANASAYAN
