Children Is my son Hyperactive? Hi, I am very scared to face this but I really hope you can give me some advice.

My son JT, when he was 8 or 9 months old, he called "mama". After that he never said a single word. I have taken him for consultation and doctors said he is slow, it is normal for a boy.

When he was 5 years old, I sent him to a normal kindergarten. Then only he started to talk. But it was very limited - he did not talk much.

Now, he is already 8 years old and he talks a lot. But he keeps repeating the same thing. He does not know how to express himself and does not know how to explain.

One thing I notice since he was 7 years old and which has not changed, is he does not stop fidgeting. He can't sit still and he needs to constantly do something with his hands.

Whenever he is not doing his homework or sleeping, he will be busy drawing, writing, etc. His hands never stop. When I told him to rest, after 1 minute he will continue with all his drawing and writing. He cannot stop his hands and he doesn't seem to tire.

The only time he stops is when he goes to sleep.

When watching TV, he will keep talking and jumping around; he cannot sit down and watch.

Is my son hyperactive?

Please help.

Answered by Dr Hon I would like to suggest that you take him to a child psychiatrist or a developmental specialist to rule out pervasive developmental disorders as he has speech delay and a problem with communication with a tendency to repeat his words.
