Question

Children Son hates preschool My son is 5 years old this year. He hates to go to preschool and refuses to learn. He will be going to a chinese school when he turns 7. What can I do to help him.

Ivy lee

Answer

Answered by Woo Dear Ivy,

There are many reasons why children do not like learning – having language problems, learning difficulties, uninteresting curriculum (due to different learning style), etc. One way to assist him would be to find out what he likes and his learning style.

We all learn in different ways – some of us may find learning easier visually (using flow charts, diagrams, pictures, etc) than listening to a lecture. Others may prefer having a hands-on experience of learning.

Generally, you can classify learning style in to the categories below:

Performing Disposition: Move

Producing Disposition: Organise

Inventing Disposition: Discover

Thinking / Creating Disposition: Create

Depending on what type of learning style suits your son, you may need to stimulate his interest in learning using the right learning style.

To read on further on this, you can get the following book which gives lots of ideas on teaching children with different type of learning style – it also has a section on assessing the types of learning styles as well:
